10 dorm essentials you may have forgotten

Knowing what to buy for your college dorm is hard work. Here are the essentials you may not think about!

Moving in is stressful, let's save a trip to the store on move in day! Some of the simpler products can slip your mind. This is a list of the smaller things you may forget about bringing.

1. Batteries

Taking batteries with you on your move in day is absolutely essential for any college student. So many products you take to your dorm will probably need batteries, but they are not included in packaging. SO easy to forget, but super essential.

2. Medicine

Being in a new environment causes most students to get sick within the first few weeks of moving in. Having a bag with Advil, Tylenol, cough drops, etc. will definitely be useful. It saves you from making that extra trip while not feeling good.

3. Extension Cords

There's most likely only a couple outlets in your tiny dorm room. Maximize this by getting an extension cord with more than two outlets, because let's face it, you're probably going to need more than two things plugged in at once.

4. Fan

Even if you don't use a fan at home, bringing one to college is important. It gets hot in all dorms. Have a fan next to your bed at all times.

5. Cleaning Materials

As soon as you get there, you will want to wipe down everything before putting your belongings on top of furniture. Just like at home, your room will get dirty, and need cleaning at some point.

6. Mattress Topper

No matter how good of a sleeper you are, no one wants to sleep on those hard beds. You will spend a lot of time in your bed, make sure you're as comfy as possible.

7. Command Hooks

You can't put holes in the wall to hang up your decorations. These hooks will be your best friend when trying to set up your dorm room.

8. Shower Shoes

This is so important if you have communal bathrooms. You don't know everyone who goes in the same shower as you. Protect your feet.

9. Vacuum

You will be living in this dorm room for a while, so the floor will probably get a little dirty. Super useful for accidents or just buildup on carpet.

10. Steamer

Your clothes will get wrinkled. A steamer is more compact and easier to use than an iron is. Steamer > iron any day.
